Higgy, you need to get more people to use this fourm, this fourm has potential, with more members I'm sure you can get it like SDIY.
C'mon, sir, you'm a spammer... Wink

I'm about to start helping with a project involving PayPal and their new micropayments scheme. The first deployment of this will probably be on www.p2pnet.net for managing subscriptions. I'm sure I can get some press there in exchange for my work.
Yesterday I added a kind of counter to count unique hits to the site. Today it says 4,571 pages generated for the SoundNet site itself and 153 unique forum sessions (not entirely accurate but it'll do). So that's a fair few coming from somewhere, taking a look but not doing anything. What can I do to get people to stay?

I'll upload the bit of code that displays these statistics later.

Edit: on 6th Oct at 11:37 it says 245 unique. I wonder if there's a bug or if that is correct.

Edit II: There is a bug. Just seen an msn bot scan the site, listing multiple sessions in the database for this one bot. Since I'm counting by unique sessions, it adds a lot of hits to the counter.

V Oh please I do not think so.
ok... how rude!

wot a creep!
Eh up, anon. coward! Sorry...

If you're speaking of the unique hit counter, I agree, those stats are a load of rubbish. The search engine bots that index the site are all causing a new session to be created for every page they visit. Since I'm counting unique sessions at the moment, these stats are being artificially inflated. Still, eventually it'll start to show some very large numbers. I like large numbers.
Well, I thinl I fixed the counter. I'll know when a search bot comes to index the site. Made a few cosmetic changes, added a couple of things and half wrote the license selection that I've uploaded with it. I'll finish license selection tomorrow. It isn't as if anyone is likely to notice it doesn't work in that time.
there are only 3 formus i really am active on (and now that i am a dad, active is a relative word)

shareaza
soundnet
harmony-central

i am positive that 1 out of 100 readers would enjoy hanging out here from harmony-central

and as it be, harmony central forums have tens of thousands of members (or so i have been told, and only a few are active but many many many are consistant readers)

maybe we could invite a few over to host music for start and then it would get the forums running

way too many pros (semi-pros atleast .......like me and you- if you are a regularly giging musician) are hanging out there in their spare time

they would love a place to "trade" and gab
I had an offer from Jon of p2pnet.net asking if I wanted him to do a story about the site. I've said I really wanted to get a couple of legal issues sorted out first. Mainly, I'm no lawyer and therefore I don't know how good my terms of use and privacy policy are in that sense. They haven't been updated for a while, actually, so I should get on that.

That is the main reason I haven't really been promoting it as much as I could do.

If you want to promote it a bit you can do. Maybe someone who visits will have some idea about law.

Edit: I've posted a little notice on the homepage. Maybe this will get a responce from someone who can help. Or maybe not.

But sure, go and promote it. Surely there isn't anyone out there sad enough to take advantage of the fact my legal stuff isn't right.

I hate law.

Edit II: Right, I've emailed Jon about this. He says he'll do me a story. Expect a few people to appear following that.

Any promotion anyone wants to do, you may.

I don't know what to do about the fact some pages don't display correctly in IE. Wait till IE7, I suppose. My code is perfectly valid and its only a few display glitches so I don't think I'll bother.
IE?

whats that?

maybee someone over at the shareaza forums could help...

i know of a few nerds over there that are verry hepfull and damn smart too
i even tried to go over there to ask but for some reason i keep getting a popup window stating that the connection attempt was refused everytime i try to log on to the shareaza forums (for the last 3 days)

can anyone confirm this or is it a problem on my end?
The Shareaza forums are down at the moment. I think the guy who hosts them has gone on holiday/vacation and the server crashed or something. So we have to wait till he gets home. I think the Shareaza forums are moving to a new host soon anyway because of this problem.

I did post a request on the Shareaza forums but I didn't get much success with that. I did get some people having a look over here, though. Got some signups, too Smile.

The IE thing is weird. It was fine before I redid all that CSS code but I like that being neater so I can't be bothered to change it back. I've added too much new stuff to go reverting to the old code now anyway.

Just waiting for Jon to get that story out. That'll get a few visitors.

Edit: BTW, that Guest posting up there, it turns out, is by a spam bot. Also the reason why I've now turned guest posting off. It's a shame there are people out there who go doing these things in pursuit of money but there you are. I suppose I could just do an IP ban instead.
Right, got the story done for p2pnet. Should go out either tomorrow or Monday. Hopefully tomorrow because Jon doesn't post much at the weekends so it'll get a bit more exposure.

Might start to get some more activity going on here.
