the origonal roland CE-1 circa 1976 was the standard for all chorus pedals following... including the eh style chorus (accredited when used constantly by curt cobain) wich is cloned by analogman ....ce-1 users include a list of artists and bands that are building blocks of rock music: rush, the police, SRV, credence, trower and many others (though not all of these artist recorded with the ce-1 they did take it on the road with them to fill in for chorus or vibrato and there are plenty of classic rockers with live recordings out there that are laden with the rich classic sounds of the ce-1)
well the CE-1 clone by retro-sonic is the only complete clone of the origonal
the voodoo labs did attempt to loosly base the curcuitry of their own chorus on the ce-1 (the sound quality was similar yet did not even come close to touching the origonal in versitility)
the retro-sonic nails the origonal and then some
its hard to call it a "clone" when the pedal rivals the ce-1....it is made with components that are up to todays standards, built to military specs and still uses the origonal bucket brigade delay chips (that are no longer in production)
the pedal sounds smooth and rich (I know it sounds like i'm talking about cream cheese.....but how else could one explain it) it is true hardwire bypassed and even when on it is extreemely quiet with no background white noise
this is a godsend...............any origonal ce-1 owner could testify to the noise and bypass problems associated with it and anyother vintage 70's pedal...............
the greatest thing about the pedal IMHO is the tonal depth, it goes alittle faster and thicker than the origonal (and quite a bit more controlable with noise and breakup)
in vibrato mode (with a little compression and eq'ing befor the pedal) i can make my guitar sound like an organ in the likes of johnny smith or the allman bros band.........i have owned several handmade botique chorus pedals and univibe clones and this pedal is a serious contender with any other...............the chorus side of the pedal is the type of effect that is "invisable" your ears get so used to listining to it that it seems to distapear....yet when you turn it off.....its like taking all of the color out of a picture.......you definately know that its not there
do yourself a favor and check em out

there are sound bites on the site but in my opinion they just don't do the pedal justice
you need to hear it through a good amp
